Commercial license
Markdown Review is licensed under the PolyForm Noncommercial License 1.0.0. Personal, educational,
research and nonprofit use is free. Any other use, such as using the plugin for work at a company, needs a commercial
license, which comes with the Commercial license tier on
GitHub Sponsors.
Terms
- Price. US$1 per user, paid once. A user is a person who uses the plugin for the organization: an employee or a
contractor. Machines and IDEs do not count; one person with three IDEs is one user.
- How long. For life. The license does not expire and covers every version of Markdown Review, current and future.
- Who is covered. The organization that paid, for as many users as it paid for. When more people start using the
plugin, pay $1 for each new user; people who stop using it free their place for someone else.
- What is covered. Use of Markdown Review for any commercial purpose, in addition to what the PolyForm
Noncommercial License already allows. Changing the plugin for internal use is allowed; redistributing it, changed or
not, outside the organization is not.
- Who pays. Preferably the organization’s own GitHub account, so the license is clearly the organization’s. An
individual may pay on the organization’s behalf; in that case, keep the GitHub Sponsors receipt as the record of the
license.
- No license check. The plugin has no license key and sends nothing anywhere. The license is a matter of record,
not of enforcement.
- No warranty. The plugin is provided as is, as under the PolyForm Noncommercial License. The payment is for the
right to use it, not for support with a response time.
How to get it
- Open https://github.com/sponsors/agadek, preferably signed in as the organization.
- Pick the one-time Commercial license tier and enter the number of users in dollars as the amount: $1 for one
user, $25 for 25 users. GitHub sends a receipt, which is the record of the license.
- That is all: keep using the plugin from JetBrains Marketplace.
If your organization cannot pay through GitHub Sponsors, open an issue or contact the author through the
GitHub profile to arrange another way.
Not sure whether you need it
If the plugin helps you earn money, or you use it on the job at a for-profit company, you need the commercial license.
Open source work, studying, personal notes and work for a nonprofit, school or public research organization do not.
The exact wording is in LICENSE, under Noncommercial Purposes, Personal Uses and Noncommercial
Organizations.
